About Tzaneen
Tzaneen is the capital of the Letaba District east of Polokwane. It comprises the valley of the Letaba river and the Magoebaskloof mountains. The climate of the Letaba District is subtropical, the soil particularly fertile and the rainfalls are high. The region is intensively used for the production of subtropical fruit. These fruit include mangos, litchis, avocados, kiwis, tomatoes, bananas, citrus, pecan and macadamia nuts as well as papayas.

Tzaneen is the biggest town in the Letaba District. The attractive garden town amidst subtropical vegetation offers any service and is the ideal starting point for an exploration of the area.

To the South West of Tzaneen, lies Magoebaskloof and town of Haenertsburg , situated in the Land of the Silvermist, the Magoebaskloof Mountains. Haenertsburg was founded in 1887 as a gold-digger town. To the south of Tzaneen is Agatha, this stunning area provides exquisite views of the Drakensburg mountains, and the Letsitele Valley below. South East of Tzaneen is Nkowankowa and further along, the citrus town Letsitele. Towards the North Easterly area outside Tzaneen, is the quaint town of Modjadjiskloof/Duiwelskloof. Past this town is the world famous Modjadji Cycad Forest, a nature reserve where South Africa's largest stock of Modjadji cycads can be found.

Tzaneen and the Letaba District are only an hour's drive away from the Kruger Park's Phalaborwa Gate.
Tzaneen is surrounded by low hills that slope up to the towering peaks of the Northern Drakensberg. Tzaneen has beautiful trees and gardens and the high rainfall and warmth of the Lowveld ensures that everything grows in rich profusion.

The inhabitants of Tzaneen are mostly farmers and business people and the area is well known for a strong economical growth pattern.

Tzaneen is the commercial centre for the district, with 80 000 people residing in its area of jurisdiction and 650 000 people residing within a 30 km radius.
